"The 3 R’s: Roofs for shelter, Roots for culture, Readers for life."
Mission:
To create an ecosystem of equity and opportunity by transforming underutilized homes into licensed family childcare businesses, cultivating early childhood educators, and empowering literacy and food sovereignty in Black communities.
Vision:
We envision thriving neighborhoods where families have access to high-quality childcare, culturally-affirming education, sustainable food systems, and generational pathways to homeownership and entrepreneurship.
Roofs represent the physical foundation—rehabilitated homes that become nurturing, licensed childcare environments. These spaces provide safety, stability, and the potential for ownership and economic mobility.
Roots symbolize our commitment to growing strong educators and families. We offer provider training, community gardening, and food justice programming—deeply rooted in culture, history, and health.
Readers affirm our belief that literacy is liberation. We embed early literacy, storytelling, and African-American cultural pride into every classroom and garden, fostering confident, curious learners.
Together, these pillars form a holistic, place-based model for neighborhood revitalization and community advancement.
“As a mother, educator, and community advocate, I saw the urgent need for a model that does more than just care for children, there is a need for programming that grows families, educators, and entire neighborhoods. Roofs, Roots & Readers Ventures was born from this vision: to provide access to affordable housing, career training, and culturally centered education that transforms lives from the ground up.”
